Reflecting on my Selected Quote

I feel I have chosen a qoute that does not perfectly fit into the category of "educational;" however, it certainly exemplifies the need for life long learning.

Nearly a decade ago I was introduced to this quote while I fulfilled the duties of my first job, a job that I used as a means to purchase a higher education in order to meet a larger goal: to become a teacher. I did become a teacher, and then I was a mother and a wife, and as my life changed, so did my goals. It was these life steps that brought me into the world of the public library, as a part time Library Associate, a place where I am learning and growing both professionally and personally.

My life has changed, my goals have changed, I have changed; but what has remained steady has been my need to know more, the same need that thwarts me into being more than I was yesterday. In ten years, I have learned the inner workings of a remodeling company as a secretary, the methods of instruction and the need for comapssion as a teacher, and now the ways to bring knowledge to the public as a librarian, and it has all happened because I have wanted to be more than a stock clerk.

On Becoming a Librarian

Give me a stock clerk with a goal and I'll give you a man who will make history. Give me a man with no goals and I'll give you a stock clerk.
